your 3d work is great, best luck on getting ahold of maya - try signing up for a community collage class then just camp out night and day in the computer lab. Best suggestion for you is to just draw more anime/manga on paper. Find a picture you like and either draw it by looking at it or just trace it, then put it away and try to draw a similar pic from memory. Also, don't be afraid to use over exagerting lines, that's what anime is all about.
